Ida Persson
The Bærtling Scholarship 2019
Ida Persson was born in 1985 in Ystad, where she also resides. She works in Löderup and obtained a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Umeå University’s Academy of Fine Arts in 2014.

Ida Persson is awarded the Bærtling Scholarship 2019 for her consistent exploration of painterly spatiality. With unparalleled accuracy and precision, Persson depicts environments and elements. The visual impact of her paintings is particularly striking due to her method of constructing the images with simple and/or repetitive elements in individual colors, contrasted with dramatic shadow effects. Persson’s ability to make the image both extend beyond itself while resting in a clear composition places her in a visible dialogue with both Olle Bærtling’s artistic practice and the constructive tradition.
