Nina Ölund Noreskär
The Bærtling Scholarship 2020
Nina Ölund Noreskär, born in 1989 in Gislaved, lives and works in Stockholm. She obtained a Master of Fine Arts degree from Konstfack in Stockholm in 2016 and studied at Dômen Konstskola in Gothenburg.
Justification:
Nina Ölund Noreskär receives the Bærtling Scholarship 2020 for her monumental paintings. Similar to Bærtling, she ventures beyond the boundaries in a way that dissolves traditional concepts such as “painting,” “sculpture,” and even “installation.” Instead, her art assumes a spatial position where the bodies of the works are in constant dialogue with both the viewer and each other. By working with unconventional materials and notions of how painting can be presented, she also aligns herself with the tradition of constructivist art, which Bærtling also saw as his and the foundation’s purpose to develop.
