Jesper Nyrén
The Bærtling Scholarship 2015
Jesper Nyrén, born in 1979 in Sala, lives and works in Stockholm. Nyrén has studied at Västerås Art School and Gerlesborgsskolan in Stockholm. He obtained his Master of Fine Arts degree from the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm in 2007.
Justification:
Jesper Nyrén is awarded the Bærtling Scholarship 2015 for his many exciting works where painting takes on a clearly spatial form, thus building on how Olle Bærtling worked with his painting both as easel art and as spatiality. Bærtling described his artistry as a whole, where the different expressions were “the children of the same spirit,” as stated in his declaration “Prologue from a Manifesto for Open Form.” This is a description that fits well with the ways Nyrén moves from the small to the large while maintaining artistic quality and integrity.
